This news page is about the Glenuig community
- news of forthcoming events in Glenuig Hall can be found on our
What's
On? page.
August 2008
Glenuig is making another push to get funding for a new Community
Shop. We need to raise funds as part of the bid and so the Hall
is being used on a regular basis ...
Hub Teashop: to
cater for both locals and tourists, Leah and Shiona are running
a weekday teashop, with cakes and soup, in the Hall from 12.00 until
15.00.
Hub Ceilidhs: we
are running occasional traditional ceilidhs, which are informal
and intimate get-togethers with live music and a licensed bar -
listen to local craic to find out when.
January 2008
Our local hotel, Glenuig Inn, has recently changed hands, having
been sold by Peter and Mandy Tevendale to Steve MacFarlane, who
intends to develop the business as a sea kayaking centre. It remains
to be seen whether he will manage this while retaining the unique
atmosphere of the Inn, created by previous owners, the local community
and the many visitors who currently return year after year.
This, along with our own fantastic hall and events programme has
made our very small community a byword not only in Scotland but
internationally for good hospitality and great craic, and we will
be guarding and building on that reputation as best we can.
Feedback on Glenuig and any of its facilities is always
appreciated - if you have anything to say please email
us.
April 2005
1st April 2005 saw the tenth anniversary of the opening of Glenuig
Hall.
Following on from the experience gained from and the successes of
the Glenuig Music Festival, our small community has now established
Glenuig Hall as one of the most renowned performance venues in the
Highlands. This was reflected by the line up of musicians who appeared
for our tenth anniversary celebrations: the Michael McGoldrick Band
and Dochas at the Friday night concert, and for the Saturday ceilidh
all sorts of musicians and friends of Glenuig, including Duncan
Chisholm, Ivan Drever, Andy Thorburn, Jim Hunter and his band, Iain
MacDonald, Iain MacFarlane, Aonghas Grant, Angus R Grant and many
more. Thanks to all those who participated and attended, and to
everyone who has contributed to the success of Glenuig Hall over
the first ten years. We look forward to many more such anniversaries.
November 2004
Glenuig Community Association launched their new website (this
one). Ken Bowker created the web design and layout, with the
words and information supplied by Eoghan Carmichael. Current photographs
supplied by Graham Strachan (Tchumbly) and Eoghan Carmichael. We
are keen for more photographs of Glenuig, particularly of the festivals,
and if you can help please let us know. We are also interested in
filling any gaps or correcting inaccuracies in the historical information
- if your memory is better than ours please let us know.
